How long is my quote valid?

Edited

Short answer

Each quote is valid for the window shown on it. Freight rates move with the market — fuel, capacity, and seasonal demand all shift — so a rate is only guaranteed while it's valid. Book within that window to lock your price. If it expires, run a fresh rate search for a current rate.

Why quotes expire

Freight pricing isn't fixed. It responds to real-time supply and demand: capacity on your lane, fuel costs, and seasonal peaks such as the weeks before Chinese New Year. A validity window means the price you saw is the price you get — as long as you act inside it.

What resets a quote

A quote no longer holds when:

  • The validity window has passed — the market may have moved.

  • Your shipment details change — a different cargo-ready date, route, cargo size, or mode changes the rate.

  • Your cargo measures differently than quoted — this affects the final invoice even within a valid window. See Why is my invoice higher than my quote?.

Example

You run a rate search on Monday and see an ocean rate valid for a set period. You request a booking two days later, inside the window — the rate holds. If you'd waited until after it expired, you'd run a new search and might see a different price, up or down, depending on the market.

How this works at Prime Freight

The rates in your portal are kept current so your self-serve quote lines up with what our team would quote directly. You may also receive rate updates by email on a regular cadence — see Understanding your bi-weekly rate emails. If a rate has expired or you don't see your lane, run a rate search again or request a custom air or ocean rate.
